Charlotte, NC (October 5, 2017) — MeckEd, an education focused non-profit, announced the promotion of Rashaan Peek to Director of Organizational Affairs. As a director, Ms. Peek joins MeckEd’s executive team with a focus on operations, communications, and community outreach.
MeckEd’s president, Ross Danis said, “Rashaan is a valuable partner in MeckEd’s work, it’s mission and sustainability. In a relatively short period of time, she has increased our profile, streamlined our operations, and increased the success of programs.”
Rashaan joined the organization in December of 2016 after working for MeckEd as a consultant. Her work involved managing all aspects of the community engagement work associated with Charlotte Mecklenburg School’s search for a new superintendent., including data collection and coordination of 13 community conversations with residents, students, and elected officials. Most recently Rashaan was instrumental in the launch and successful growth of MeckEd’s Out of School Time initiative, Charlotte NEXT.
Rashaan said, “I want to make sure that all young people in our schools have access to opportunity. That is why I do this work and why I am excited about the future. “
Prior to joining the team at MeckEd, Rashaan was the executive assistant at Charlotte Center City Partners, as well as a business owner who assisted nonprofits and small businesses with their unique organizational and operational needs.
Ms. Peek has been in the nonprofit field for over 20 years; earned a degree from Georgia State University, a Non-Profit Management Certificate from Duke University; and serves as Chair of the Charlotte Board of Advisors for Girls on the Run.
