Charlotte-Mecklenburg School employees will get a long-awaited pay raise that the district has been asking for.

County commissioners approved $18 million in extra funding Tuesday night, money that is to be used specifically for those raises. All school district employees will receive a 3-percent raise.

It’s their first in four years.

“It’s not enough, the 3 percent is not enough,” Superintendent Heath Morrison said. “But it is a start and hopefully as the economy continues to improve, we can improve on that number as well.”
