Mission
MeckEd is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that is an independent advocate for excellent public education. As a trusted and independent source of education information, MeckEd’s mission is to inform, educate and engage the community around the critical issues facing local public education. Through leadership mobilization, rallying of resources and community engagement, MeckEd helps Charlotte-Mecklenburg students achieve sustained and significant academic success.

MeckEd provides information, learning experiences and opportunities for the community, funders, policy makers and public and private organizations to get involved in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
We Provide Reliable and Trusted Sources of Information. MeckEd is a learning organization that can be counted on to provide best practices information and objective measures for public education improvements and success.
We are strong proponents of public education and believe every child deserves a quality education to prepare them for contributing to the local and global economy.

Our Role as an LEF
MeckEd is a Local Education fund (LEF). LEFs are non-profit, community-based organizations whose purpose is to stimulate change that ultimately improves public education. Though independent, LEFs work closely with public school officials and school board members, as well as business and community leaders to improve the schools throughout the entire county.
MeckEd belongs to the Public Education Network, a national association for Local Education Funds. Together, PEN and its members are building public demand and mobilizing resources for quality public education on behalf of 12 million children in 32 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. PEN believes public involvement through public education equates to public benefit.
