Welcome to our new website for Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education, Meck Ed for short. We hope you’ll check in often for the latest news and information about our own school system and innovations or news from other public schools systems across the country.
We are a non-partisan, non-profit organization and we believe that well-informed citizenry can become engaged in supporting and creating excellence in our public schools. We will strive to be your reliable and up to date source of information about our schools, education reform, and successes and issues elsewhere in the state and country.
We believe strong Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are essential for our region’s future economic strength. We believe every child in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools can achieve academic success. We hope to help by being a community leader, a trusted source of information and research, as well as by being a constructive, objective partner with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education (Meck Ed) is a member of a national association, Public Education Network. We share the principles of over 80 organizations across the country.
All these organizations believe:
- Public Education is fundamental to a democratic, civil and prosperous society.
- Public schools are critical institutions for breaking the cycle of poverty and redressing social inequities.
- Education reform must be systemic to be effective.
- Public engagement, community support and adequate resources are essential to the success of public education.
We welcome you to our Meck Ed website and to this community of citizens for public education!
